htmlBlender has the resources and experience to provide quick delivery times without sacrificing quality. You may select your preferred turnaround time during the order process. More information on turnaround times is below:

Markup Programming & PSD to HTML Projects:
For a standard PSD to HTML markup order, the first page can be processed in as little as 8 hrs (one business day). This allows time for the hand coding process, quality assurance and browser compatibility testing. More time is required for multiple page orders or those with complex JavaScript elements.

Software Implementation & Design Integration Projects:
Turnaround times for implementation projects vary per application, but a 2-3 business day turnaround is required for most applications. More time may be required if the project's scope involves extended or custom functionality.

Website Design Projects:
Delivery of the initial concept and home page design is usually delivered within 2-3 business days. Delivery times for inside pages depend upon the scope of your design project. Time estimates will be provided by your project manager.

Revisions & Change Requests:
Revisions are generally processed within 24 hours or less. If more time is required, you will be notified by your project manager.

Note: Turnaround times are estimates only and can vary depending upon your project’s complexity and our current production loads. We make every effort to meet deadlines. If your are submitting a time sensitive project, please contact us to make arrangements.

Do you offer any discounts or volume discounts?

Yes! We offer two types of discounts – discounts for inside pages and volume discounts based on the number of projects submitted. You may view the per page discounts on our order page (generally $39 to $79 per page depending upon complexity). Details on volume discounts can be discussed with your project manger, which are generally related to the number of projects submitted within a given timeframe. We value our repeat clients  and make sure to extend any possible savings to them in appreciation for their continued business.

We are even able to support and provide extensive discounts for high volume, long-term contract projects. Over the years, we have worked with large firms, agencies and organizations to function as their backend development divisions. We are proud of this work and have leveraged this experience to benefit all of our clients. If you have a large scale development project, please feel free to contact us for consultation, as we have extensive and ongoing experience with advanced high-volume development without sacrificing quality.

What is your refund policy? Is there a guarantee?

htmlBlender values your business and wants you to be happy with our services. We guarantee your satisfaction and are dedicated to ensuring the delivered code fully meets your expectations. If it does not, we simply ask for the opportunity to correct the issue and are confident that we are capable of rectifying any validity or compatibility concerns. However, in the event we are unable to meet your expectations, we will issue a refund for the following reasons:

  • If the order or project cannot be completed
  • If the order is canceled before commencement
  • If the delivered markup is not W3C compatible or has not met the ordered compatibility standards
  • If you are not satisfied with the result while viewing it on our private staging server

Note: The above refund policy applies to markup and basic CMS theme development projects only. Advanced web development and custom CMS development projects are governed by a more extensive contract utilizing addendums to provide client protection, including phase-based project terms for time and cost management.

Getting Started & Our Process

I'm ready to submit my PSD to HTML project. How do I get started?

Your project can be submitted using our order page. During the order process you will be able to upload your files, select from a variety of markup and JavaScript options, as well as, custom themes, skins and templates for popular software applications.

Which design file formats do you accept?

While our team can code your designs to XHTML and CSS from nearly any format, we do prefer the design files to be layered in one of the following formats: PSD, PNG, AI, INDD, etc.

Please note that if your design is a flat file (un-layered) such as JPG, PDF, etc. and it contains complex shadowing or other visual elements, there may be an extra fee and require more time for design recreation of these elements, so that we can properly code them to clean markup.

How do I send you my design files?

During the order process, you will be able to upload files (or links to files) in the Clients Area. You may also upload accompanying instructions or additional details with each project or file. For files larger than 50 MB, we recommend free services such as YouSendIt.com. Other options include uploading files to your server and providing a link to the files. Or you may contact us for private FTP access information to upload files larger than 50 MB to our servers.

What if I have specific instructions for my project?

During the order process, you will be able to upload design files, along with any additional instructions and notes in the Clients Area, which contains advanced project management tools where you can upload files, track your project's status, communicate with our team and download deliverables.

Our goal is to make sure you are comfortable submitting your project to us.  If your project is particularly complex or you would like to discuss details prior to submitting it, you may contact us via online chat, email, phone, or instant messenger. Our knowledgeable project managers will work with you to determine the best technologies and solutions to ensure you are happy with the completed project. If direct contact with our developers is required, your project manager will be able to arrange this for you.

How do I indicate rollovers and mouse-over behaviors in my PSD design file?

To indicate how you would like JS and CSS effects to appear and operate, you should add logically named layers containing the design and/or notes on the desired behaviors. For example, you could create a separate layer named 'hover' or 'mouse-over’. This will show us how you would like to have the mouse-over behaviors appear on the page.

What is the difference between a main page and a sub page?

The main page is usually considered to be the home page which contains the overall layout and design style of your website. Sub pages, also known as interior or inside pages, are derivatives of the main page layout, and contain major elements of the navigation and general layout. For website projects which require separate markup for multiple pages, we do offer inside page discounts. Discounts are provided for inside pages which borrow from the overall design of the main page.

If you are not sure if your pages would constitute an inside page discount, please feel free to contact us for review. If your project contains repetitive inside pages, which only have minor content variations, please contact us to review for potential further discount. We may also suggest the use of a content management system (CMS) to reduce development time and cost and streamline future content and website management for your project.

Do you work directly on my server?

We recommend that all development be done on our private staging server for your private review. However, when necessary we can work directly on your server. When working on a client's server, our normal procedure is to create a backup of any files we work with. We will then upload the new site or pages to a staging area or live area (depending on your preference). Once approved and completed, we will remove the archive and delete your FTP password from our files. As a further security precaution, we never store FTP passwords in FTP applications. We also recommend that you change your password afterward, as a standard safety procedure.

For markup orders, we deliver an archive file (in ZIP format) containing all XHTML and CSS along with all corresponding files.

For CMS development, design integrations and other advanced web development projects, we generally perform the development on our staging server for your private preview. Once the project is complete and approved by you, we then migrate the files and/or database to your server.

PSD to HTML Markup & JavaScript

Can you provide coding in other languages or RTL?

We are able to provide markup programming with support for RTL. This accommodates languages such as Arabic and Hebrew, which are predominantly right-to-left in orientation. If RTL support is required on a CMS or shopping cart integration projects, please contact us to confirm that your chosen application will support this type of integration.

Do you code AJAX tabs or other AJAX elements?

Our developers are highly skilled at creating scripts and applications using AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), which is a subset of JavaScript that allows websites to dynamically generate and place content on portions of pages without reloading the page. As an important element of modern web development, AJAX scripting is commonly used in popular items such as live Twitter feeds, lazy loading content, photo galleries, content tabs and form submissions.

Can you code my PSD to an HTML email format?

Yes, we can convert and code your design or PSD to HTML Email format. Our HTML email code conforms to the standards outlined in the Email Standards Project, so that your HTML email will render correctly in all major email platforms and applications. Please also see our FAQ on responsive email coding for more information about HTML emails for mobile devices.

Can you code dynamic menus such as drop-downs or slide-outs?

Building dynamic drop-down and slide-out menus has become second nature to our developers. While drop-down menus can be created with both JavaScript and CSS, we prefer to code drop-down menus with pure CSS. With the advent of CSS3, we are able to build sleek, elaborate menu structures that can even incorporate some animation without the use of JavaScript.

What type of markup options are available?

htmlBlender provides a wide array of markup options. Among these options are markup types (XHTML or HTML5, and CSS2 or CSS3), the use of Server Side Includes (SSI), and tabled or table-less layouts. You can find a full listing of all of these options on our Order Page, or request a live chat with one of our representatives to find out more information.

What is the difference between HTML and CSS?

HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. It is used to allow a computer application, usually a web browser, to understand what the content of a document (a web page) means. It uses “tags” to describe blocks of content. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It is used to apply “styles” to a web page. In other words, CSS is used to define how the content inside of HTML tags will appear. If you have any other questions, please feel free to request a live chat with one of our online representatives.

What is the difference between sIFR and Cufon?

sIFR and Cufon are font and image replacement methods.

sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) allows you to use non-web fonts in a web page by replacing standard HTML elements with Flash. sIFR is useful when applied to headings or short text fragments and can improve search engine optimization (SEO).

Cufon is a similar font replacement method to sIFR which allows the use of non-web fonts in a web page. Cufon provides search engine optimization (SEO) benefits while allowing greater control over design. Please note that Cufon text will not be selectable by the user, but due to faster load speeds it is recommended over sIFR technology.

Do you provide XHTML/CSS markup for mobile browsers and mobile platforms?

htmlBlender provides markup services to code your designs into mobile-friendly XHTML/CSS markup.  When submitting your project, our order form allows you to select your targeted devices  or mobile browsers. We will code, test and support our delivered markup on your targeted mobile browsers and/or devices.

We also can convert your existing HTML website into a mobile-friendly version. See options on our Order Page or Contact Us to review your project.

Does your markup support flexible (or liquid) width layouts?

A flexible (a.k.a. liquid, or fluid) width layout is when a website is designed to span the entire width of the screen, regardless of the resolution of the user’s screen. We are able to provide fluid layouts, however making a layout fluid can be complicated and not all designs can be programmed to have a fluid width layout. If your design contains elements that prevent a fluid width, we can make suggestions on the changes that are required, or our designers can even make the changes for you.

Do you support accessibility options such as 508, WCAG 2.0, etc.?

WAI 2.0 / Section 508 requires that all website content be equally accessible to users with disabilities. We provide an option that guarantees that the markup we deliver meets or exceeds the W3C standards for web accessibility. Section 508 compliance is a common requirement for United States government agencies, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Contact us if you have any questions on specific accessibility options.

Do you code JavaScript elements and effects? Are the included in the markup cost?

JavaScript has become practically ubiquitous on the Internet and most of the projects we manage involve at least a small amount of it. Our developers are adept with JavaScript and are familiar with all of the major JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as jQuery, MooTools, and ext.js. JavaScript, being a programming language, is more complex than markup and therefore is not included in the markup cost of a project. The cost of common JavaScript elements are listed on our Order Page; request a live chat with one of our representatives to find out more information.

Which JavaScript platforms and libraries do you support?

Smooth JavaScript effects contribute greatly to a dynamic and user friendly website. htmlBlender provides programming services for cool JavaScript effects based on custom coding or by utilizing JS libraries and platforms including jQuery, MooTools, script.aculo.us, ExtJS, PrototypeJS. Read more about our Professional JavaScript & AJAX Development Services.

Can you work with ASP.net master pages?

ASP.net master pages allow developers to create consistent layouts for all of the pages in an application. While our developers mostly specialize in PHP, we often work with ASP.net master pages and are able to assist with further integration of our delivered markup, if needed. Please contact us for more information.

Do you offer printer friendly CSS versions of the stylesheet?

We do provide the option to include a separate print CSS stylesheet for accurate display of specified elements for the print view of the layout. If this option is selected on the order page, please provide additional details or screenshots to indicate which elements are required to be present in the print version of the page(s).

Can you integrate my HTML email into an email list service?

Email list services, such as MailChimp and ConstantContact are a useful way to engage your users. We provide integration into the most popular email list management services and software. You can find all of these options on our Order Page by clicking the “PSD to Email” tab, or request a live chat with one of our representatives to find out more information.

My HTML emails are being marked by spam filters. Can your coding services help us correct our HTML emails so they are not flagged as spam?

We can certainly assist you with this common spam filtering issue for HTML emails. Please note that there are several factors that could be affecting delivery other than markup code, such as:

  • Email content
  • Incorrect mail headers
  • Incorrect server setup
  • Server located in a bad network (blacklisted subnets, blacklisted IP’s, etc.)

We will explore all of these factors during our investigation. Please be prepared to send us a copy of the email that is being flagged as spam so that we may review it.

What makes HTML and CSS “valid”?

The Word Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an organization who manages the standards of (X)HTML and CSS code. Organizations such as Google, Mozilla, and Apple use the W3C standards as a guide to how HTML and CSS should render in their web browsers. These standards help a developer create websites that look and function the same across all web browsers. An (X)HTML or CSS document is considered valid when it meets all of the standards defined by the W3C.

We provide W3C valid (X)HTML and CSS for all of our projects. We recommend using the W3C Validator to check for errors in (X)HTML and CSS documents. Please note that some CMS and shopping cart applications can render HTML and/or CSS that may contain validation errors. We work to minimize these errors, however, some cannot be avoided. Generally, with most popular platforms, these errors are nominal, but if you have any specific questions about W3C validation, please feel free to contact one of our client support representatives using the live chat on our website.

Do you provide and guarantee pixel-perfection?

We strive for perfection in everything that we do. Pixel-perfection is no exception. Design files, such as a PSD file, render text using a different method than the method used by browsers. This presents an obstacle that is extremely difficult to overcome when coding for pixel-perfection. Although we do our part by providing hand-coded, 100% W3C valid markup, limitations between applications can sometimes prevent us from achieving pixel-perfection on the finished product.

Please keep this in mind when creating your designs, and be aware of other PSD to HTML companies promising pixel-perfection. For more questions on pixel-perfection, please contact us directly.

Can you work with existing HTML markup code or my existing website?

Working with code created by someone else can be difficult and hard to understand if the author did not abide by common W3C validation standards or if the code is not well formatted. For this reason, we prefer to work from PSDs of your designs. We are able to work with existing HTML, or your existing website, as long as it is well formatted, clean and W3C valid. We can still work from it if it does not meet these requirements, however there may be a code-acclimation fee. This amount of this fee is determined upon review of the code in question.

Software Design Integrations (CMS, Cart, Blog, etc.)

Can you convert my PSD to a CMS, Shopping Cart, Blog or other applications?

Our developers are skilled at converting PSDs to templates of over 80 applications. The most commonly requested applications that we build templates for can be found under the “Add Software Integration” section of our Order Page, and include Content Management Systems, Shopping Carts, Forums, Blogs, Social Networking Scripts, and other popular third party applications. These applications include WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, X-Cart, Presta Shop, and more. We are able to integrate your designs into applications that are not on this list; please contact us via live chat to find out more information.

What is the add-on cost for custom themes and integrations?

The prices of our most commonly requested applications that we build themes for, such as WordPress, Magento, and Joomla can be found under the “Add Software Integration” section of our Order Page. Our integration prices are competitive in the industry and, unlike many other companies, our one-time fee covers the entire design integration of the application’s default functionality. Further theming of advanced functionality, such as plug-ins and cart pages, is available.

Can you help me choose a CMS or shopping cart for my site?

We get asked this a lot! Let’s be honest, there are a tons of options to choose from when it comes to picking a platform for your website. If you’re not a tech guru, this choice can be daunting. Our skilled client support specialists are available, through email and our live chat, to help you determine what CMS or shopping cart is the best fit for your specific project. They will discuss the requirements and expectations of your project to be sure that the platform they recommend is the best application for your project.

Do you offer custom functionality development for CMSs, Shopping Carts and other applications?

Yes, we offer custom functionality development for many open source applications. Please note that if your application is a hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) solution - such as SquareSpace or Shopify - there may be a limitation to the degree customizations we can make, dependant upon the service's Application Programming Interface (API). For more information on which applications we work with, their limitations, and how we work with you to provide this functionality, please contact one of our customer support representatives using our live chat tool.

Do I need to design all the inside pages of my website for you to create a full theme for the CMS?

We are certainly able to create a full theme with as little as one page of design, however, we recommend that you provide the designs for inside pages if you require variations of the default layout of interior pages or sections. Depending on the complexity of the pages and the CMS chosen, no actual graphic design may be required for inside pages, however we are prepared to assist you in the design of new pages if your project requires it. Please contact us to find out more about how we price inside pages.

Do you provide custom script and application development?

There is a plethora of platforms, plug-ins and scripts available all over the web, but that doesn't mean one has been created that does what you need. Some scripts may meet your needs but be overkill and others may have most of what you need, but not everything. Our developers are skilled enough to chop, splice and bridge scripts together to meet your needs. If we determine that there are no suitable existing applications or scripts that meet your project’s needs, we are able to create custom applications from scratch. Tell us what features or functionality you need and our developers will make it happen. We are equipped to use PHP/MySQL and JavaScript, along with accompanying technologies, to create feature-rich websites and applications that meet your exact needs.

  • HTML file(s)
  • Supporting CSS files

What items are delivered with a custom theme, skin or template?

Orders for custom themes, skins and templates receive an initial markup delivery as described above. After you review and approve the XHTML / CSS markup, we then install, configure and theme your selected application on our staging server for your review. Once complete, we provide you with an archive of the theme directory and supporting assets or can even install and migrate the application to your server for you.

Will I receive a sliced PSD with my markup delivery?

We do not provide a sliced PSD with your markup delivery. This is because we actually hand code the XHTML/CSS and do not use HTML export utilities from Photoshop or any other graphic editors. If a sliced PSD is absolutely required, this can be ordered by special request only. Please check with your project manager for more details.

What is the revision process and is it included in the cost of my project?

We do our best to make sure you don’t need any changes after we deliver your project, but we understand that revisions are sometimes required. As long as the revisions you request are within the original scope of your project, we will continue to make them until you are completely satisfied. Items that are considered revisions include, but are not limited to, layout tweaks, functionality tweaks and small content changes. Revisions do not include changes such as adding new pages or functionality. As long as requests for revisions are made prior to 5 PM EST, we will strive to complete the revisions by the next business day.

What if I need to make design changes after you deliver the markup?

We can accommodate any changes necessary, but we prefer that your designs are finalized prior to the initiation of the markup phase. If design or layout changes are required, they may incur an additional cost.

How long do you support your code?

We guarantee that you will be satisfied with your end product; that requires us to support our code indefinitely. As long as any issues you are having are within the original scope of your project, we will provide a solution.

If I edit the code, will you continue to offer support?

As long as the code you have changed or added is W3C valid and well formatted, we will support it at no additional cost. However, if we determine that the code has been changed significantly, there may be an acclimation fee. Your project manager will be able to discuss this with you.

Do you provide ongoing support services for projects?

These services can be one-time changes to your project, or you can have a webmaster, developer, or designer on retainer for a monthly fee. In short, yes, we provide flash implementation and development. Our developers prefer to stay on the cutting edge of technology, however, and as such, HTML5 and JavaScript is the preferred platform. HTML5 and JavaScript are native to all modern browsers and most mobile browsers, meaning the user does not have to download and install a plug-in to view the content. We (and much of the web development community) feel this is better for usability and compatibility. If you require flash, we can certainly develop it for you, however we recommend speaking with one of our client support specialists, via our live chat tool, about implementing your project in HTML5 and JavaScript.

Are you able to develop responsive emails?

With the use of mobile devices on the rise, such as phones and tablets, responsive web design is quickly becoming the norm. This has lead many our of clients to ask us about responsive email templates as well. In layman's terms, "responsive" simply means a layout that will "respond" to the different screen sizes it might be viewed upon, changing it's layout to better fit the screen size.

However, the technical aspect of implementing a responsive design entails the use of special properties called media queries. When it comes to developing websites, using media queries is not a problem because nearly all modern browsers support them. Unfortunately, the same is not true for many popular email applications. For instance, the Gmail and Yahoo! Mail mobile apps do not support media queries and will show the desktop version of a responsive email instead. The email applications for Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8, and Microsoft Surface do not support media queries either. Since these applications and devices are quite popular, we do not recommend using responsive techniques in emails just yet.

As a compromise, you may consider optimizing your email templates for mobile by creating a single column, fluid width email design, or by creating emails at a maximum width of 640px. This should ensure that your email is viewable on most mobile devices with minimal panning required, while still looking great on a desktop computer. Knowing the compromises and risks, if you still would like to develop responsive emails, feel free to contact us, but please be aware that it is not possible to make an email responsive across all devices.
